SLO PD Hopes To Battle Mental Health Issues Among Homeless With Possible New Grant – KCOY

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- Up to 30-percent of daily service calls to the San Luis Obispo Police Department are for homeless related activity. So the department has applied for a grant to try and curb the problem.

The department has a Community Action Team or CAT Team that addresses adverse and illegal behaviors in the community. “They’ll go out and make contact with people, and if they find that they are involved in criminal activity then they will take the appropriate enforcement action, and then that’s kind of where it stops,” said Captain Kieth Storton of SLO Police
